A Peek Into Our Week

We have had an awesome week! So thankful to be feeling 100% better. Just in time for Auntie Caralyn and Grandma & Grandpa's visit next week. :)

After banging on our sliding glass door for hours, I thought we could use some fresh air. E busted out of the door like Miami Vice. Don't worry we were only out for a few minutes and then she screamed and resumed staring out the window.
She is waving and yelling at the planes/cars/dogs. Hopefully someone saw her little show because it was adorable.

..And then the snow came. Nathan sent me that picture (below).

I was stoked to take Emma out in the "snow" (we didn't get much, DC got 4 inches).

..Unimpressed. Poor thing thought I was dressing her up to go shopping or something. "What do you mean we are sitting in the grass? Take me to the mall."

Biggest news this week? I signed the kid up for gymnastics/dance classes! I'm so excited I cannot contain myself. I wish I was joking. I'm a retired gymnast and I have dreamt of the day I could bring my little peanut to gym.

Nathan said "Well, what if she doesn't like it?"

I don't care. She's going.

And last night E must have had a bad dream? Another night terror? I have no idea. We ran downstairs to get her some warm milk in her sippy and she grabbed the lemon juice. Whatever works, people. Ahem. Let me note that she didn't drink the lemon juice, just carried it around.

It must have really wore her out because she slept in until 8! Poor baby.

Okay that's all the exciting stuff going on here! Happy weekend, folks! xO

Friday Faves

Happy Friday! Doesn't mean anything for us. . . it's technically our Monday, boo.

Some things I'm loving this week:

These magnetic letters for the fridge. Are they not the cutest thing ever? I cannot justify the $40 price tag but hey-- I can dream, right?

These labeled cutting boards. I read an article earlier this week on the dangers of cross contamination and how it's killed more people than..something. Regardless, I'm now obsessed and I want to throw out all our old cutting boards. I wish I was joking.

This curio cabinet. I've been looking for a curio cabinet for a long time. I have a lot of do dads around the house that need a home.

Our local garage sale site has a lady that is giving one away. Yup, for free. I still have to work out the details (like how it's going to get here), but I would love to fix it up, give it some love, and give it a new home. I'll keep y'all posted. :-)

:: And I thought this was funny (found on Pinterest):

Okay! I gave Emma a pouch on our rug in the living room so I better make sure it's making it to her mouth. Peace!

Pumpkin Cake-Ies

I'm not one of those "basic" girls who is pumpkin obsessed or anything (I don't like PSL), but I do enjoy pumpkin flavored stuff during the fall/holidays.

Pumpkin pie, pumpkin pie blizzards, pumpkin muffins. . . you get it. I wanted to introduce pumpkin to Emma in a somewhat healthy way.

Enter Pumpkin "Cake-Ies".

Contrary to how they look, I can promise you they are delicious. Ahem. Note the one that Emma bit into. It was more like, "Here Emmie have some! CRAP! Mommie wants a picture for her blog give it back." Cue hysterics.

This cake-ie is adapted from this recipe-- we went without the frosting. The cake-ies are sweet enough, promise. I have a major sweet/sugar tooth and the frosting is just too much.

What you need:
:: 4 cups flour
:: 2 tsp baking powder
:: 2 tsp baking soda
:: 1 tsp salt
:: cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice (I just shake the jar until it smells good, LOL)
:: 2 tsp vanilla
:: 1 can pumpkin
:: 2 eggs
:: greek yogurt, butter (totaling about two cups, halve it, whatever works)
:: 1/2 cup brown sugar
*You want the consistency to be a bit runnier than cookie dough, but definitely not as runny as cake mix

Preheat oven to 375.

Beat eggs and sugar. Add in the rest of the ingredients besides the flour. Mix well.

Add in flour 1 cup at a time, mixing after each cup. Keep adding until it is desired consistency.

Spoon onto greased cookie sheet (or a silpat mat) and bake for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy!

Our Journey With Essential Oils

Let me preface this by saying I'm somewhat of a skeptic. My husband too. When I was pregnant, I paid to have a lady do a "reading" on me-- she said I was having a boy and it would be a water birth.

When I first brought up the idea of essential oils to my husband, he thought it was a joke. I begged for some for Christmas, and he did not disappoint. He's awesome.

He did pretty well! He researched and found this kit on Amazon. It wasn't the one I had in mind, but he found it and I'm thankful.

The kit he found actually has great reviews and so far, I'm quite impressed. You can read more about it here.

So when he got me the kit, I was kind of confused on what to actually do with the oils. I put some lavender on my hand and "swirled" it around in the bath with Emma one night. It smelled so good and it did help me relax a bit (I think).

Enter this fancy diffuser. After talking to my Aunt, she suggested this diffuser. She said I could play around with different oils and find some scents I liked, and have it in the room when Emma sleeps.

Also enter my husband making some type of comment on having to buy another thing to go with these oils which "are basically just water, Liz".

Lavender was obviously my oil of choice (again, I like to relax). I filled the diffuser with the specific amount of water, added 8-10 drops of lavender, and boom.

The diffuser lights up and Emma is enthralled by it. It's to the point where we can't turn it on until she's asleep, because she just wants to stare at it. It changes colors, adds some moisture into the air, and obviously our room smells so good. (There are specific settings if you don't want the colors to be so bright). Like I said it's pretty fancy. :-)

And the first night we had it on? She slept 13 hours straight. She also took a 3 hour nap. My husband is now the one to make sure the diffuser is on each night, ha ha. ;)

So while I've barely deviated from the lavender oil (granted, that was the only oil I really wanted to begin with), it's been kind of fun! If anything, our house smells so fresh and the diffuser helps add some moisture into this dry air we have. So, a win in my book.

Okay, be sure to let me know if you use oils and what your experience(s) have been! xO

"Just" a Mom

So most of you know that I am now officially a stay at home mom. I never saw this coming so soon, but hey-- I'm so very thankful and blessed to be able to stay home and take care of my sidekick all day.

Maybe I'm just lazy, or a baby, but holy crap-- the days are long as hell. How on earth am I supposed to be in charge of her? All day? What the heck do we do? How do I get her ready for preschool? How do I get her ready for the real world? Why is it too soon to teach her colors? Holy crap I'm supposed to teach her stuff?

Yeah. Those are the thoughts running through my mind 24/7. It makes me want to vomit.

Not to mention I have to feed her, socialize her, keep her happy, comfortable, and control her hair. The hair alone is a 20 minute process.

Nathan and I are still trying to find our "roles" around here. Before, I was working during Emma's nap times, and now I'm doing 600 other things-- meal planning, cleaning, dishes, laundry, waiting for the weekend, etc.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a mommie. My mom taught me how to swaddle my babies, cook elaborate meals, how to keep a clean house, and how to survive on little sleep. I dreamt of the day I would have a little mini following me around and I never pictured dropping her off at day care so I could have a "real" job.

Nathan & I always wanted my job to be more in the home, so I could eventually stay at home with our child(ren). Both of our moms stayed at home growing up, and we think we turned out pretty well because of it. :-) So, while this was always "part of the plan", we didn't think the plan would happen so soon! But, God always has perfect timing. We are trusting Him!

So, while I am completely, 100% winging this parenting gig, we are having the time of our lives. And to someone who thinks we are "just" moms, I invite you to come over any day of the week and you will never forget to take your BC pill. Promise.

A Peek Into Our Week

We are finally on the up and up here. Emma is still coughing but not nearly as often. Praying the worst is behind us!

Gave E raisins instead of craisins a few nights ago.. the drama with this girl..

Besides being sick we've had an awesome start to 2015. We have been so productive I can't believe it-- the Christmas decorations are down and in the garage, went through the entire house and trash/donate/keep'd it, dropped a giant bag at Good Will, and next week we are tackling the garage. Score.

The house looks so bare. Trying to figure out what we should do in our living room. Suggestions? I would really love a curio cabinet, maybe a chase lounge?

The dogs love having the fluffy rug back to play on. E loves watching them. It's like fight club. Totally kidding please don't call Animal Control on us.

Snuck out to get groceries and these are the annoying texts I get from my husband. He is awful. He knew I was worried about my homegirl!

I have wanted a big black and white pic of E in the bath for above our bath. We attempted the photo shoot last night, LOL. Got a lot of funny ones, not sure if we got a winner. I'll have to play around and edit them during nap time.

Okay, hope everyone has an awesome week! xO

2014 Recap

2014 was good to us! Cannot wait to see what 2015 has in store for our family. Here are some of our favorite moments and highlights from 2014.

January

We rang in the new year sick (again!), it snowed a good amount, and I got back into jogging after having E.

February

By the time February rolled around, E & I were really getting the hang of breastfeeding. I know, only took us 4 months. This made life much easier. I still wasn't able to pump enough to leave her for 14 minutes, but hey-- she's my kid and I'm kinda stuck with her.

We celebrated my 24th birthday, went out for Valentine's Day, and my dad had a quick visit towards the end of the month.

I was able to sneak out for 3 different birthday lunches with friends-- so that was really fun!

After weeks of Emma waking up and itching her face all day/night, we found out she has some crazy skin "condition" like her pops. Getting her face cream was a god send!

March

Let the madness begin. :-) We watched a lot of Syracuse basketball, I think my in laws visited this month, and E started to get pretty playful.

It was also starting to warm up here so we did lots of walking in the stroller. I was putting my FitBit to good use!

There was a shopping center down the road from us so we would visit the animals at Petsmart. Emma's favorites were the birds, but she also loved tormenting the dogs at doggie day care.

April

My in laws paid a visit and my FIL set up Emma's high chair. She loved it! It was so fun to have her sit with us during meals.

I also think this was when we helped my sister in law pick out 6 more prom dresses..Am I right?

The Easter Bunny came & went and my grandmother found that darling dress for E (below). We were still kind of nervous bringing Emma out, so we skipped Easter mass. We had a fun dinner at home-- I made a cheese ball and we even ate outside!

May

Our first trip! We flew to NY for my cousin's wedding. Slightly terrifying but we survived. Emma screamed for the first 3 hours we were in New York. Super pleasant. I think my aunt was regretting having us stay with her. :-)

Our first night out was for my cousin's rehearsal dinner! So much fun. The sitter went great and when we came home, they were asleep cuddled up on the couch..win!

After NY, we flew straight to FL for my SIL's graduation and Emma was a flower girl in my sister's wedding.

The other flower girls pulled her in that wagon and I don't think I took a breath the entire ceremony.

June

Our apartment lease was almost up so we had to do some serious thinking about what our next move was-- buy a house? Move? Stay?

We did lots of walking in the stroller, nights out with friends, and Emma was really starting to eat solids this month. Her favorites were prunes and sweet potatoes, LOL.

Emma wasn't crawling yet but she was sitting and would reach soooooo far, almost to start crawling and then come back.

July

We had a fun 4th of July with some neighbors, and then we walked a few miles to some festival that had a lot of food trucks. When we got there, Nathan said he wasn't hungry. I about punched him in the throat.

Later in July my aunt & cousin came for a visit! We went to Georgetown, took a tour, cooked, and all sorts of crap. They also got me hooked on juicing.

After they left, Papi came! We went out for pizza, grocery shopped, and he bought Emma that beautiful giraffe dress. Then I convinced him we needed it in two additional sizes. Ahem.

August

We did a lot of activities for World Breastfeeding Week with our MOMs group. My favorite was all the freebies-- ice cream sandwiches, lunch, tshirts, kid toys. . .

E had her 9 month checkup! Some random guy in the parking garage came up to us and told us she was the most beautiful baby he'd ever seen..duh.

Nathan says she looks like Shrek with her hair and the green bow, ha ha.

Of course with our luck, E started getting night terrors right after her appointment.

It was horrible-- several hours of an ordeal for a few weeks! I ended up throwing out those pajamas because they brought such bad energy into our house, LOL. In all seriousness, I was very close to having someone come to our apartment and do a cleanse or something.

September

We closed on our first house!

Whoop whoop! We still don't feel old enough to be homeowners. My dad came and helped us move all our crap in-- he was such a huge help. Right after he left, my in laws came and helped some more!

My FIL painted our deck, we found a kitchen table, they watched Emma so N & I could get some groceries.. good times. :-) My FIL left his painting clothes in our closet upstairs-- little does he know I have lots more plans for him!

October

This post is really getting ridiculous and I'm exhausted..

Okay the weather was beautiful so we ate dinner outside almost every night!

E got her first fever. Kind of ironic because my dad said I always got sick around my birthday growing up.

My in laws came back and Caralyn & I went to the scariest haunted house ever. Then we came home to my kid screaming and a very frustrated husband. Sorry babe.

We took E to a farm/corn maze/petting zoo event the following weekend. She loved the chicks! She petted (?) a cow and cried. She acted like I forced her to pet it when she was the one leaning up and touched it. So funny.

Emma turned one on the 20th! She had a great day-- cake, cupcakes, Target trip, photoshoot, nap with mama..does life get better?

After my in laws left, my cousin came. After she left, my dad & Becky came. We get a lot of visitors. :-) Our place is like a B&B.

We went trick or treating and had almost 200 trick or treaters come by. My dad had fun scaring the kids and Nathan ate most of Emma's candy. That's how it's supposed to go, right?

November

Nathan turned 26 (I think) on the 1st!

We spent most of November getting ready for our trip. Packing, getting the car checked out, lists, clothes, etc. Plus I had to act like life was boring every time we spoke to Nathan's parents. :-)

That was the day before we left (above)! We were heading to the store to get snacks. I remember posting it to FB and thinking "My MIL had no idea she is going to see us..tomorrow!".

We made it to Indy with few hiccups. Emma napped on an air mattress so I hung with her and tried to sleep. Have you ever quietly escaped off an air mattress? Yeah, it's impossible.

Thanksgiving was wonderful-- so much to be thankful for. We were slightly terrified of our drive home, though.

December

Came home from Indiana with colds, of course.

Emma started throwing tantrums left and right-- this one because I wouldn't let her play with the trash!

Went to the mall for Christmas presents, lost the keys in Kohls, my grandparents came for a visit, and a boy kissed Emma at the soft playground at the mall. Sweet. As in, he ran right up to her and kissed her.

We made sugar cookies, white trash, & PB blossoms. Everything was gobbled up by the day after Christmas.

We had a wonderful Christmas! Santa was so good to Emma and we are so blessed to have so many people that love her like we do.

Overall 2014 was a wonderful year. It has been a big change-- but no doubt we are loving life here. :-)
